Project Jade · AI mixing agent by Loopin · Updated

Mix like your favorite artist.

Project Jade is an AI mixing agent Loopin is building to take a rough mix toward a finished mix and master, steered by the sound you describe or the style of an artist you love. It isn’t released yet — it’s open by waitlist.

Agentic mixing means an AI that plans and carries out the whole mix toward a goal you set — balance, vocal fix, space, width and mastering — instead of applying one preset to everything and hoping it fits.

What Jade is being built to do

Mix toward an artist’s sound

Name the sound you’re after — dark and wet, dry and close, stacked and airy — and Jade moves your mix toward it: tone, tuning style, doubles, space and width.

Pro vocal fix

Harsh S’s, mud in the low mids, a vocal that sits on top of the beat or gets buried in it — the problems that make a home vocal sound like a demo.

Pro studio mix and master

Balance, glue and loudness across the whole song, finished to streaming levels so it holds up next to the records you love.

Split a track into stems

Only have the stereo bounce? Jade is being built to separate it into parts so the vocal and the beat can be treated on their own.

Sounds you can mix toward

Each sound below links to a free, sourced breakdown of how it’s made — what engineers have actually said, what you can hear on the records, and how to get close yourself. New breakdowns go live through October and November. Artist names describe a style of production; Loopin isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.

Dark, wet trap

Hard, audible tuning, a big synthetic space, ad-libs thrown wide, the vocal tucked into the beat.

Rage and pitched voices

Bright, clipped, formant-shifted leads over distorted 808s.

Late-night alt-R&B

A close lead in front of long, dark ambience and a muted, filtered beat.

Stacked harmonies

Real doubles and wide harmony stacks with an airy top end.

Dry, intimate, whisper-close

Very little reverb, soft dynamics and a sub-heavy bed under a quiet voice.

Emo rap and pop-punk

Melodic hooks, polished tuning and guitar-forward energy.

Warm and conversational

A forward, natural-sounding lead with room to breathe.

Vintage and doubled psych

Tape warmth, doubles, filtered lows and hazy space.

What actually makes a vocal sound like an artist

An artist’s vocal sound comes from three layers. The performance — range, phrasing, breath, accent — can’t be mixed in. The recording and arrangement — the mic, the room, how many doubles and harmonies were sung — is set before the mix starts. The mix is the third layer, and it’s the one a mixing tool can honestly move. These are the dimensions it’s made of:

Space
Dry and close, or distant and washed in reverb. Pre-delay of roughly 10–40 ms keeps words clear before the tail blooms.
Brightness
Warm and dark, or airy and expensive-sounding at the top — with de-essing after any air boost so the S’s don’t bite.
Tuning style
Invisible, polished, or hard and stepped as an instrument. Fast retune with no humanizing gives the robotic effect; slower settings keep vibrato.
Doubles and stacks
One lead, tight doubles, or a wide choir of harmonies. Width comes from the stack and the effects, while the lead stays centred.
Dynamics and colour
How evenly every word sits, and how much saturation adds grit and helps the voice cut through without turning it up.
Delays and throws
Echoes on phrase ends, ducked so they fill gaps without blurring the words.
Level against the beat
On top of the track or inside it. One study of popular recordings since the 1970s found the lead vocal sat roughly 1 dB above the accompaniment on average, higher in rap and pop and about level in rock (Gerdes & Siedenburg, JASA Express Letters, 2023). Treat it as a tendency, not a rule.

Research points the same way. In a 2025 paper, researchers from Queen Mary University of London and Sony modelled the effects on 435 professionally mixed vocals and reported that the biggest differences between one vocal chain and another were in how spacious it sounded, followed by how bright (DiffVox, DAFx 2025). It is one dataset, but it is why the sounds above are grouped the way they are.

How AI mixing toward a reference works

AI mixing toward a reference works like an assistant with a reference track on the desk. It measures what’s audibly different between your rough mix and the sound you want — balance, tone, dynamics, space, width — and adjusts the processing on your recording to close the gap. Research from Queen Mary University of London, Sony AI, Adobe Research and others since 2020 has demonstrated, in research settings, that a production style can be transferred from one recording to another this way. It moves the mix, not the voice.

  1. Bring your rough mix — a stereo bounce or stems.
  2. Choose the sound — describe it, or pick the style you’re aiming for.
  3. Jade works through the mix — balance, vocal fix, tuning style, space, width, then the master.
  4. Compare and adjust — against your original, at matched loudness, and keep what you like.

Style, not someone else’s voice

Jade mixes toward a sound, never a voice. Mix choices like tone, compression, reverb, delay, width and tuning style are production techniques, and techniques aren’t owned by anyone. Your vocal stays your vocal: Jade doesn’t clone, swap or imitate any artist’s voice, and it never puts a reference track’s audio into your song. Artist names on this page describe a style of production, not an endorsement or affiliation.

Questions about Jade

What is Project Jade?

Project Jade is an AI mixing agent from Loopin. It is being built to take a rough mix and the sound you want, and work through the whole mix — balance, vocal fix, space, width and mastering — toward a finished version you can compare with your original. It isn’t released yet; it’s open by waitlist.

When does Jade launch, and what do I get on the waitlist?

There is no public launch date yet. The regular waitlist is free: you’re emailed the day Jade opens to everyone, when it will cost $20 a month. The priority waitlist costs $5 today, gets you in before the public rollout, and keeps your price at $5 a month for as long as you stay subscribed.

Can AI make my song sound like my favorite artist?

Partly, and it’s worth being precise about which part. An artist’s vocal sound comes from three layers: the performance, the recording and arrangement, and the mix. The mix — tone, dynamics, tuning style, doubles, space, width and level against the beat — is what an AI mixing tool can move toward a reference. Your delivery, phrasing and voice stay yours.

Will Jade change my voice into someone else’s?

No. Jade mixes toward a sound, never a voice. It doesn’t clone, swap or imitate any artist’s voice, and it never puts a reference track’s audio into your song. Your vocal stays your vocal; what changes is how it sits in the mix.

Do I need stems, or can I use a finished rough mix?

Stems give any mixer more control, human or AI. Jade is being built to work from separate stems or from a single stereo rough mix, splitting it into parts itself. Either way, send a clean, unclipped bounce with the vocal clearly audible.

Can AI mix a song as well as a mixing engineer?

On a clean recording, today’s AI mixing tools can get the technical work right — level balance, masking, EQ conflicts, loudness — in minutes. A good engineer still wins on creative judgement, fixing a poor recording and the back-and-forth of revisions. Many artists use AI for demos and early versions, and hire a human for the single.

What’s the difference between AI mixing and AI mastering?

Mixing balances and shapes the individual parts of a song: vocals, drums, bass, instruments. Mastering is the final polish on the finished stereo mix — overall tone, dynamics and loudness. Jade covers both. Loopin’s free mastering tool, which isn’t AI, handles mastering on its own today. Try the free online mastering tool.

Can I mix toward a reference track?

Referencing is how professional engineers work — most use more than one reference song — and it’s the idea behind Jade’s mix-like-that-artist feature. If you reference by ear in the meantime, match the loudness of the reference to your mix first, or the louder track will always sound better.

How much will Jade cost?

Jade will be $20 a month at launch. On the priority waitlist you pay $5 today and keep $5 a month for as long as you stay subscribed. The regular waitlist is free. Payments are covered by our Cancellation Policy.

Is it OK to release music mixed toward an artist’s style?

Mix choices like EQ, compression, reverb, delay, width and tuning style are production techniques, and techniques aren’t owned by anyone. What is protected is a person’s voice and likeness. Don’t present your track as the artist’s, don’t use their name or image to sell it, and follow each platform’s rules on impersonation.
