Is eMastered Free? What the Free Tier Actually Gives You
Published · by Loopin
eMastered is free to try and paid to keep: you can master and preview as many tracks as you like, but downloading the master needs a subscription. The free preview is still useful — as a diagnostic for your mix.
Know exactly where the paywall sits
At the time of writing (October 2026), eMastered’s help centre says you can upload a song, have it mastered and compare it with your unmastered version free of charge. You’re only asked to pay when you want to download the mastered file. There’s no free download tier.
So “is eMastered free” has a two-part answer: free to listen, not free to release. If you need a file today and don’t want a subscription, the preview alone won’t get you there.
Use the free preview to diagnose your mix
An automatic master is a stress test. Upload your mix, play the loudest chorus in the preview, and listen for three things: does the low end get muddier, does the vocal get harsher, does the chorus crunch? Any of those means the mix has a problem that a louder master exposes.
Fix what the preview reveals — usually a 1–2 dB cut around 250 Hz for mud or 3–5 kHz for harshness — and upload again. You’ve used a paid engine for free as a mix check, which is exactly what the unlimited preview is for. Run the same test on a second song if the first result is close.
Price the paid plan before you fall for the preview
eMastered’s help centre says all plans have the same features and differ only in billing; the cheapest per month is the yearly plan billed monthly, a 12-month commitment at $19 a month at the time of writing. Third-party roundups list month-to-month at around $39. Check the current prices on eMastered’s pricing page, and read which plan can be cancelled anytime.
The subscription includes unlimited masters, WAV and MP3 downloads, reference mastering and manual controls for strength, EQ, stereo width and volume. That’s a strong package if you release monthly. For one single, you’re paying for a year to download one file. Our is eMastered legit post covers the billing terms in more detail.
Get a free download somewhere else when you need one
If you need a master you can actually release without paying, master the track free with Loopin: no account, no sign-up, and the download is a 16-bit WAV at about −14 LUFS with a −1 dBTP ceiling. Eight feels (Warm, Punchy, Crisp, Wide, Vintage, Club, Lo-fi, Cinematic) cover most of what a style preset would.
BandLab Mastering is another free option with unwatermarked downloads, though it needs a BandLab account. LANDR, like eMastered, lets you preview free and charges to download.
Compare the free file against the preview, level-matched
Play eMastered’s preview and the free master of the same mix back to back at matched loudness. Judge the snare’s front edge, the vocal’s clarity and whether the bass holds up on a phone speaker. Loopin’s loudness-matched A/B does the matching for its own master, so you only need to set the preview’s volume by ear.
If eMastered’s preview is clearly better on your song, it’s earned the subscription. If not, use the free online masterer and spend the money on promotion. For a wider comparison, see free online mastering vs LANDR and eMastered.
Frequently asked questions
Can you download from eMastered for free?
No. At the time of writing (October 2026), mastering and previewing are free, but downloading the mastered file requires a paid subscription.
Does eMastered have a free trial?
It offers unlimited free previews rather than free downloads. Check the sign-up page for any current trial offer, and note which plan you'd roll into.
How much is eMastered per month?
At the time of writing, $19 a month on a 12-month commitment billed monthly, per eMastered's help centre; third-party roundups list about $39 for month-to-month. Check the pricing page before paying.
Is there a free alternative to eMastered?
Yes. Loopin Mastering is free with no sign-up and downloads a WAV at about -14 LUFS. BandLab Mastering is free with an account.
Is the eMastered free preview full quality?
It's a full preview of the song for comparison, which is enough to judge tone and loudness. Use it level-matched against your original so the louder version doesn't win by default.
Can I use eMastered without an account?
You need an account to subscribe and download. Check the site for what the preview requires at the time you use it.
