Ditto Mastering vs Free Online Mastering: What the $5 Actually Buys

Start with the side-by-side

At the time of writing (October 2026), Ditto’s mastering page offers a free full-length preview and a $5 download, with no subscription; Ditto says it’s powered by Masterchannel. Loopin: mastering, previews and the loudness-matched A/B are free and unlimited, with downloads capped at one per rolling 24 hours (no account) or two (free account), and a 16-bit WAV export.

Both let you hear the finished master before paying. The difference is the download: Ditto charges per file and its page lists no daily cap, Loopin gives a capped free download and a flat paid plan (Unlimited, $10 a month or $59 a year; check the pricing page for your region).

Find out where the $5 is real value

Ditto’s support pages describe the download as a streaming-ready WAV; check them for the bit depth, because Loopin’s export is 16-bit and some clients and distributors prefer higher. If your delivery spec says 24-bit, that settles it: pay the $5 or use a human engineer.

The other real value is paying per file instead of waiting out a window. If you need three finished masters tonight and don’t want a plan, $15 is a cleaner answer than waiting for a rolling 24-hour window to reset.

Find out where free is enough

Demos, beat previews, social clips, a single you’re releasing this month: for these, free online mastering gets you a streaming-level WAV at about −14 LUFS with a −1 dBTP ceiling for nothing. Eight feels cover most styles, and Punchy (about −11) or Club (about −10) get you hotter when the genre wants it.

The maths: at $5 a track, 4 masters a month is $20. The flat yearly plan is $59, about $4.92 a month, so it beats per-track pricing from the second master each month. Under one master a month, either free option costs you nothing.

Run the same mix through both, level-matched

Export one mix with peaks around −6 dBFS and no limiter on the bus. Preview it on Ditto and master the track free on Loopin. Match the loudness before you judge, within about 0.5 dB, because the louder file always sounds better first.

Score three things in order: kick and bass, vocal clarity, the loudest chorus. If Ditto’s preview wins two of three on your track, pay the $5 without guilt. If it’s a tie, keep the money. BandLab Mastering is also free and belongs in the same test.

Skip both when the mix is the problem

No automatic master, free or paid, fixes a buried vocal or a boomy sub, and neither takes creative direction. If three feels all give you the same complaint, go back to the mix. Our free vs paid mastering post covers what money does buy.

For label or vinyl work, or a client who wants someone to argue about the high end, book a human mastering engineer and treat these masters as your reference. That’s where the real money is worth spending. Whichever way you go, keep a note of the feel and settings you chose per track, so you can reproduce the master if the client asks for a small change next month.
