Ditto Mastering Review 2026: Is the $5 Download Worth It?

Know what you get before you upload

At the time of writing (October 2026), Ditto’s mastering page offers a free full-length preview of your master and charges $5 to download the finished file, with no subscription. Ditto says the service is powered by Masterchannel, and Ditto’s own business is distribution, so mastering sits next to a release flow rather than being the whole product.

That structure is honest and easy to understand. You hear the whole track mastered before paying anything, which beats a 30-second teaser. What you don’t get is a way to steer the sound: judge the preview, then pay or walk away. Check the page for the current file format and what a re-download costs before you buy, because those details are the ones that change.

Do the cost-per-master maths at your volume

At $5 a download, one single costs $5, a five-track month costs $25, and a twenty-track month costs $100, every month. If a track needs a second master after a mix note, check whether Ditto treats it as a new $5 download. That is the number that decides whether a per-track price stays cheap.

For comparison, Loopin Mastering Unlimited is $10 a month or $59 a year (about $4.92 a month; check the pricing page for your region). Break-even against $5 a track is two masters a month on the monthly plan, and a bit over one a month on the yearly plan. Below that, per-track pricing wins; above it, it doesn’t.

Run the 10-minute preview test

Bounce a stereo mix with peaks around −6 dBFS and no limiter on the master bus. Put it through Ditto’s preview and through free online mastering on Loopin, then match the loudness by ear or with a meter before you judge. The louder one always sounds better until you match.

Listen in this order: kick and bass first, vocal or lead second, loudest chorus last. If the preview wins on two of three, the $5 is justified for that track. If it’s close, take the free option and keep the five dollars.

Use the free side properly

On Loopin, mastering, previews and the loudness-matched Original-vs-Mastered switch are free and unlimited. Downloads are capped: one per rolling 24 hours with no account, two with a free account. The export is a 16-bit WAV at about −14 LUFS with a −1 dBTP ceiling, with Punchy near −11 and Club near −10 if you want it hotter.

That cap is fine for a release and tight for a batch. If you’re finishing a tape, audition every track free, then spread the downloads across days or take Unlimited for the week you need it. BandLab is also free, so it’s worth a third column in your test.

Know when Ditto is the better call

If you release one or two tracks a year, already distribute through Ditto and want a one-off, pay-per-song file with no commitment, $5 is hard to argue with. You’re not paying for a plan you won’t use.

If you master for clients, it stops being cheap fast, and neither tool replaces a human when the mix itself is the problem. Automatic mastering takes no creative direction and can’t fix a muddy low end. For the wider price picture, see the cheapest way to master a song and run your next one through the free masterer first.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Ditto mastering cost?

At the time of writing (October 2026), Ditto lists a free full-length preview and $5 to download the master, with no subscription. Check dittomusic.com/mastering for the current price.

Is Ditto mastering free?

The preview is free; the download is $5. Loopin is free to master and preview with no limit, with downloads capped at 1 per 24 hours without an account and 2 with a free account.

Who makes Ditto's mastering?

Ditto states the service is powered by Masterchannel. Treat the two as related products and test them on your own mix.

Is Ditto mastering worth it for 10 tracks a month?

At $5 a download that is $50 a month. Loopin Mastering Unlimited is $10 a month or $59 a year, so volume users usually come out ahead on a flat plan.

Can Ditto or Loopin fix a bad mix?

No. Both are automatic and take no creative direction. If the low end is muddy or the vocal is buried, fix the mix first, or send it to a human engineer.

How do I compare Ditto's preview to another master fairly?

Match loudness first, within about 0.5 dB, then listen to kick and bass, vocal, and the loudest chorus in that order.
