Udio to Spotify: The Pre-Release Audio Checklist

1–2: Check the rights and the file

1. Rights. At the time of writing (October 2026), Udio has had downloads switched off since 30 October 2025 under its Universal Music Group settlement, and its new licensed platform is designed so creations stay in the app. If you hold a file from earlier, confirm which terms applied when you made and downloaded it, and keep your proof: plan receipt, creation date and the untouched original.

2. File. Work from the best-quality file you have. A WAV is ideal. If you only have an MP3, master that; converting it to WAV first adds nothing but size.

3–4: Fix the edits and the mono fold

3. Edits. Listen to the first and last five seconds. Trim any dead air, remove a click at the start, and give an abrupt ending a 1–2 second fade. AI songs sometimes end mid-reverb or mid-word; fix that before anything else.

4. Mono. Fold the track to mono. Udio exports are often very wide, and wide parts can cancel on phones and mono speakers. If the bass or pads vanish, make everything below about 150 Hz mono and pull overall width back 10–20%. How to master an Udio song for Spotify goes deeper.

5–6: Calm the harsh band, then master

5. Harshness. On the loudest chorus, sweep 2–5 kHz for the spot that stings and cut it 1.5–3 dB with a wide Q. A limiter will exaggerate whatever's harsh, so this has to happen first.

6. Master. Master the Udio song free online: Punchy for rap and pop, Warm for soul, acoustic and R&B, Crisp for dull sources, Club for dance. Flip the loudness-matched Original-vs-Mastered switch and keep the feel that sounds better at the same level, not the one that's louder.

7–8: Confirm loudness and true peak

7. Loudness. Spotify normalises to −14 LUFS. Loopin's default export lands at about −14 LUFS; Punchy at about −11. Anything louder than −14 is simply turned down on playback, so there's nothing to gain by pushing further.

8. True peak. Spotify recommends true peak below −1 dBTP, or below −2 dBTP if the master is louder than −14 LUFS. Loopin's default export has a −1 dBTP ceiling at about −14 LUFS, which fits. If you pick a louder feel and hear crackle after upload, go back to the default export.

9–10: Upload the right file with the right label

9. Format. Upload the 16-bit WAV, not an MP3. Name it with the title and version ("song-title-master.wav") and make sure the title matches what you type into your distributor exactly. Listen to the downloaded master all the way through once before upload.

10. AI disclosure. Spotify backs the DDEX AI disclosure standard and removes unauthorised vocal impersonation and spam. Answer your distributor's AI questions honestly, don't use an artist name or voice you don't have permission for, and don't mass-upload near-identical tracks.

Know what to skip

Skip making a separate master per platform; one −14 LUFS, −1 dBTP master covers Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and the rest. Skip re-mastering a master; if you change anything, go back to the original Udio file and run it through the free masterer again.

And skip the "louder is better" instinct. The checklist is about sounding right after normalisation, not before. For what distributors themselves look for, see what distributors check in pre-release QC.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put an Udio song on Spotify?

Only if you hold a file you're allowed to release. Check the Udio terms that applied when you made and downloaded it, keep proof, and follow your distributor's AI rules.

Can you still download from Udio?

At the time of writing (October 2026), no. Downloads were switched off on 30 October 2025 after Udio's UMG settlement, apart from a 48-hour window in November 2025.

What LUFS should my Udio song be for Spotify?

About -14 LUFS integrated with a -1 dBTP true-peak ceiling, or -2 dBTP if the master is louder than -14 LUFS.

Do I have to say my song is AI on Spotify?

Spotify supports the DDEX AI disclosure standard through distributors. Answer your distributor's AI questions honestly; impersonation and spam are removed.

Should I upload WAV or MP3?

WAV. A 16-bit WAV is standard; an MP3 gets re-encoded by Spotify and loses more detail.

Do I need different masters for Spotify and Apple Music?

No. One master at about -14 LUFS and -1 dBTP works across the major platforms.
