Master 10 Songs in One Afternoon: A Batch Workflow That Holds Up

Prep all ten files in the first 30 minutes

Before you master anything, check every mixdown: stereo WAV, peaks between −6 and −3 dBFS, no limiter on the master bus, same sample rate. Rename them in running order. This half hour is where the afternoon is won, because a bad file found at track 8 costs you the rhythm.

While you do that, mark any track that sounds like a mix problem (harsh vocal, boomy low end, very quiet intro). Those go in a separate pile, because a master takes no creative direction and can’t fix them. Better to send the notes back now than to re-run them six times.

Set the clock: 8 minutes a track

Give each track 8 minutes: 2 to upload and master, 3 to compare, 3 to decide and log. Ten tracks is 80 minutes of working time, plus breaks. Use free online mastering for the audition: mastering, previews and the loudness-matched Original-vs-Mastered switch are free and unlimited.

Start every track on the same feel. Eight are available (Warm, Punchy, Crisp, Wide, Vintage, Club, Lo-fi, Cinematic), and the default export is about −14 LUFS with a −1 dBTP ceiling. If the first feel isn’t right, you get one swap. If the second isn’t right either, the track goes in the problem pile.

Use one checklist and log the result

For each track, tick three things in this order: kick and bass hold up, the vocal is forward without sharp S sounds, the loudest section doesn’t crunch. Write the feel you chose and one word about the track in a sheet. That sheet is what makes the next batch faster and gives you something to show a client.

Do not judge by volume. The Original-vs-Mastered switch is loudness-matched, so what you hear is tone. Take a short break at track 5; ears drift on the third hour of loud material, and you’ll start choosing the brighter version every time.

Budget your downloads before you start

Downloads are the one capped part: one per rolling 24 hours with no account and two with a free account. Ten finished files in an afternoon isn’t possible on the free tier, so audition everything now and download across days, or take Loopin Mastering Unlimited ($10 a month or $59 a year; check the pricing page for your region) for the batch.

Loopin takes one stereo mixdown per track, with no stems and no album upload, so the batch is ten separate runs. The WAV export is 16-bit. If a client needs different delivery specs, find out before you start, not after.

Finish with a back-to-back listen

Put all ten masters in a playlist in running order and play the last 20 seconds of each into the first 20 seconds of the next. Any track that jumps in level or tone gets re-run or flagged. Our guide to mastering an album consistently has the fix list.

If you do this every month, the cost is easy: ten masters on Unlimited costs the same as one. And remember what you’re delivering: a fast, consistent first pass. For anything going to a label or vinyl, master the track free as a reference and hand the final to a human.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to master 10 songs?

About 80 minutes of working time at 8 minutes a track, plus 30 minutes of prep and 20 for a final listen, so roughly 2.5 to 3 hours.

Can I batch master on Loopin?

There is no batch or album mode. Each track is its own stereo mixdown. Mastering and previews are free and unlimited, so you can audition all ten quickly.

How many songs can I download free in a day?

1 per rolling 24 hours with no account, 2 with a free account. Loopin Mastering Unlimited is $10 a month or $59 a year.

How do I keep ten songs at the same loudness?

Start every track from the same feel and prep, aim for about -14 LUFS, then listen to the set in order and re-run any track that jumps by more than about 1 dB.

Which tracks should I pull out of the batch?

Any with a mix problem: harsh vocal, boomy low end, or already limited to 0 dBFS. Return them to the mixer rather than re-running them.
