Beat Previews for Instagram and TikTok: Master Them So They Don't Sound Quiet

Master the full beat first

Short clips from a quiet mix sound weak next to everything else in the feed. Master the beat free before you edit anything, so the clip inherits a finished level.

For a loud preview pick Punchy (about −11 LUFS) or Club (about −10); for something warmer, Warm. The default WAV at about −14 LUFS is fine for lyrical or chill beats.

If you post several clips from one beat, cut them all from the same mastered file so levels match from post to post.

Cut the hook, not the intro

Start the clip on the beat drop or the first loop that has your drums, bass and melody together. Skip the first four bars of build. People decide in about a second whether to keep watching.

Use 15–30 seconds. Loop one 8-bar section if the beat is repetitive, and put a half-second fade on the cut so there is no click.

Open with the loudest, busiest moment, then drop to the full loop. A clip that starts quiet gets scrolled past before the beat arrives.

Do not limit the clip again

A second limiter on a short clip squashes drums and exposes the tag. Cut from the mastered WAV, export, and stop. If it clips after conversion, lower the clip’s gain by 1 dB rather than limiting.

Keep peaks under −1 dBTP. Apps re-encode every upload, and hot peaks are where artifacts show up.

Export at the highest quality the editor allows and avoid exporting twice. Each re-encode costs a little clarity.

Check it on a phone, not studio monitors

The feed is heard on a phone speaker, so play the clip on one. If the 808 disappears, add a little upper harmonic content in the mix or check for mono bass. See LUFS for TikTok and LUFS for Instagram Reels for platform notes.

Compare at matched loudness against a beat that sounds great in your feed. If yours is quiet, go back to the master, not the clip.

Test on a phone at 50% volume in a room with noise. That is closer to how people listen than headphones in a quiet studio.

Tag it lightly

Add your tag after mastering, at roughly the level of your loudest drum hit, and place it once in a 15-second clip, not three times. Overusing the tag shrinks the beat.

Keep the clean master for the buyer. Our how to master a beat guide covers the rest.

Batch it: master once, cut three clips of 15 seconds from different sections, and schedule them over a week. One master feeds a full week of posts.

Make three clips from one master

Cut a 15-second drop, a 20-second melody-led section and a 30-second full loop with the tag. Same master, three angles, so you can see which section people replay.

Name them consistently (beatname_drop, beatname_melody, beatname_full) and keep the clean WAV safe. When one clip works, the matching section is the one to feature in your store thumbnail and pinned post.

Treat the clip as an ad for the master: if the full beat is mastered well, every clip you cut from it is consistent, and the buyer who clicks through hears the same sound.

If you post weekly, keep one folder of mastered WAVs and cut from it. That way a late-night edit never touches the mix again. Ready to try it? Run the full beat through the free masterer before you cut the next clip.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my beat preview sound quiet on TikTok?

Usually because the clip was cut from an unmastered mix. Master the full beat first, then cut the clip.

What loudness should a beat preview be?

A master around -14 LUFS works for most beats; Punchy at about -11 or Club at about -10 sounds louder in a feed. Keep peaks under -1 dBTP.

How long should a beat preview be?

15 to 30 seconds, starting at the drop or first full loop.

Should I put my tag on the Instagram preview?

Yes, once, after mastering, at about the level of your loudest drum hits.

Can I master beats for free?

Yes. Mastering and previews are unlimited on Loopin; downloads are capped at 1 per rolling 24 hours with no account and 2 with a free account.

Should I master the clip or the whole beat?

Master the whole beat, then cut the clip from the mastered file. A clip mastered on its own can end up louder than the beat it advertises.
